Volunteers Bring Light House to Life

Almost a million dollars in upgrades have now been completed at our iconic Norah Head Lighthouse.

The latest feature is the installation of a brand-new workshop – helping volunteers keep the popular site accessible and sparkling for visitors.

Local builder Kevin Gamble got the privilege to build the new workshop, which took almost 6 years from conception to get through the approval process to meet all the governing bodies and heritage rules, then to be built.

The investment from the State government through the Crownlands reserve fund has contributed to upgrading lighting, security, footpaths, accessibility, and the brand-new shed.

With the lighthouse being maintained wholly from the great work of volunteers, the purpose-built workshop will go a long way to make life easier for them to do their jobs.

There are amazing teams dedicated to maintenance, Landcare, and tours. Like all great community organisations, volunteers are always needed, especially to help with the souvenir and snack shop as the busy tourism season arrives.

Adam Crouch, secretary for the Central Coast and Liberal member was there to hold the honour of opening the workshop facility officially. He praised the volunteers and acknowledged that the lighthouse is a showpiece because of all their work and noted that their professional grant writing abilities to applications for support were impressive.

An amazing statistic he shared in regard to the volunteering efforts on the central coast was that we have approximately 365,000 people living on the coast and just over 40,000 volunteers. That is one of the strongest volunteer turnouts in Australia.
